Increasing a Stitch to Make a New One

To increase a stitch at the beginning of a row, work on the first stitch.

Put the “working” needle through the front of the stitch as usual, behind the “holding” needle.

Bring the yarn over between the needles and loop it through to form the new stitch.

Now, instead of pulling the old stitch off, go through the middle of the remaining loop with the “working” needle,
behind the holding needle.

Bring the yarn over between the needles, pull the loop through on to the “working” needle

Pull the rest of the stitch off as usual and you should have 2 stitches looking something like this

To increase a stitch at the end of a row, knit to the next to the last stitch, work the increase, then knit the last stitch.
