Materials

Handmaiden Fine Yarn – Great Big Sea
(Silk, Wool, Seacell)
see Recommended Suppliers
One strand Lurex or other Sparkly Yarn from your stash

Needles 3.5 mm

Tension 3 stitches per inch (12 stitches per 10 cm)

Petals (Make 2)

Cast on 4 stitches.  Purl 1 Row.

Next Row: K1, increase 1 stitch, K2, increase 1 stitch, K1 (6 stitches)
Next Row: Purl

Repeat these 2 rows until there are 10 stitches, ending on a purl row.

Next Row: Knit?Next Row: Purl

Next 3 Rows: Decrease 1 stitch either end until 4 stitches remain.
Next Row: Purl. 
Next Row: K1, increase 1 stitch, K2, increase 1 stitch, K1 (6 stitches)

Repeat these 2 rows until there are 10 stitches.

Next Row: Knit Next Row: Purl

Next 3 Rows: Decrease 1 stitch either end until 4 stitches remain.

Cast off.

Centre

Cast on 3 stitches.  Next Row: Purl
Next Row: K1, increase 1 stitch, K1, increase 1 stitch, K1

Repeat these 2 rows until there are 9 stitches, ending on a purl row.

Next Row: Knit Next Row: Purl

Next 3 rows: Decrease 1 stitch either end of row until 3 stitches remain.

Cast off.

To Mount

Place the two petals to form a cross shape.

Place the flower centre on top in the middle.

Thread a large darning needle with four lengths of silk yarn and two sparkly. (6 ends) Pull the needle through all three flower pieces just to the left of centre.

Leave a tail then come back through just to the right of centre, leaving another tail as you unthread the needle.

Take hold of all twelve ends firmly between finger and thumb. Wind round finger, hold finger & thumb as close to flower as possible & pull ends through centre to form a knot.

to turn the Sea Flower into a brooch thread a safety pin or brooch pin (slightly smaller than the petal) through the back at the top.
